Goats vs. notes

We took a trip to Columbus, OH to experience the city’s culinary scene. A weekend of gastronomic delights awaits us. We already ate some incredible hor’s d’ouevres at Latitude 41, a creative farm-to-table restaurant in Marriott’s Renaissance Hotel in Columbus. Chef Dave MacLennan described the local origins of the bacon, the tomatoes grown down the road apiece and the eggs laid by his chicken friend Patty the Hen. Needless to say, the ingredients speak for themselves. The food was simple and familiar but with flavors that seemed extra concentrated, as if they managed to cram in more raspberries per raspberry.

Sunny Meadows is an organic farm, completely DIY, and the owners are a young couple who seem completely smitten with the idea of sustainable, organic farming, as well as with each other. It’s adorable, and impressive. I remarked how cool it was that they decided simply and suddenly to start this place, and they pulled it off completely with their own sweat and wits. They provide local markets and restaurants with their fine produce, but they also grow a lot of flowers (organically) and are dabbling in poultry and pork.

Later on, at Black Creek Heritage Farm, Maggie, who is a goat, ate all the notes we had taken, so, well, we were going to write something, but, you know, goats. Ate the notes.
